On the 14 May I pulled in to a property at Woodstock/Guru to do a Five Minutes With … interview with a gentleman I met a couple of weekends ago while having a quite drink at the Woodstock club house. As I pull into the drive way at the end of a very quiet road, I am met by two barking dogs that greet me with a little suspicion but are fine as soon as their master calls them.

The beauty of doing the Five Minutes With … is that I get to find out a little more about people that I have sometimes known for a very long time. This is the same with the young lady in today’s interview.

The young man in my Five minutes with… today came into the World Theatre with Distance Education as part of his Australian studies. We got to talking and ended up doing a tour of the theatre and me hearing about this country I have lived in for 25 years and call home through a completely different set of eyes.

I first met the gentleman in today’s Five Minutes With … when he was getting married, and not to his lovely wife of today. He was in a play about a wedding where the audience were the guests. I had not been in Charters Towers too long and this was my first experience of the Charters Towers culture that is Towers Players.

Today’s interviewee is a well recognised face around Charters Towers. A local business owner, you will find her tending her gardens for your enjoyment at Tara Nursery. Please join me in reading another side of a candidate for the upcoming Charters Towers Regional Council elections in:

Five Minutes With … today will find you with another Mayoral candidate. It was my misfortune because of my commitments that I was unable to do a face to face interview with him but I am sure many of you will already know him, apart from his face around Council but also when he was attending your carpets or even treading the boards with Towers Players. So join me in taking:

Today’s Five Minutes … interviewee lived in Charters Towers for almost 20 years where she brought up her family of four. I have known her since moving into Charters Towers and we have kept in touch since she has left. I thought it would be interesting to interview someone who has left the town and see where they are now.

Today you will be hearing the answers to the Five Minutes With … from another lady who chose to do them without a face to face interview. Those who know her know she does not like to talk about herself and would rather listen to others, so felt she would prefer to answer the questions this way.

Today’s Five Minutes With … chose to do her interview as an email so I did not get my normal chance to sit and have a chat and wander off the subject. All the same I feel with the answers you are about to read, you will be able to gain some insight into how she thinks and feels. Please enjoy:

I have known Katie since she was little and she has always had a bubbly, enthusiastic nature. As a young lady she still has this same demeanour which she is all too willing to share. After an incredibly interesting chat with Katie about her overseas voluntary work, we eventually finished this interview. Here is:

I interviewed my next Five Minutes With … candidate at his place of passion – where he spends a good part of his time doing what he loves to do – The Venus Battery.

This week’s Five Minutes With … is someone I have known for many years. I could sit and listen to her stories and poetry for hours. She has a contagious laugh and such get up and go, it is hard to believe she is 77. I sat with her for three hours doing this interview and if I hadn’t had to go to Townsville would probably have stayed all afternoon. Everyone has a story to tell and here is Jean’s. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did listening.

Do you have moments in your life where the world seems to stop you for a moment and say ‘Hey you have to take notice right now?’

Hi, my name is Erin Turner and this is a little about me.
You live in a town for years, you think you know everyone, you walk down the street and you don’t get far before you are stopped for a chat with another local.
