Sticking to My Diet
By Tiffany Hopkins
It is important in life to set yourself challenges. When I got up this morning, I knew that today’s challenge required that I wear my Nike sneakers and clothes that screamed endurance.
Today I was going to seek out and delight in a three course meal at the Charters Towers Show and each course had to consist of food on a stick.
After a quick trip to the ATM, I purchased an iced coffee to cleanse my pallet with between courses and headed for side show alley. The heady smell of sinfully good food hit me like the bill for my last medical; I was going in.
It wasn’t long before my one genetic flaw, my father’s nose, found a stall selling delicate and aromatic chicken satays. Marinated to perfection and warmed through, this multicultural entrée was quickly devoured and followed by the robust big brother of food on a stick.
Lashings of tomato sauce complimented this battered mystery known as the dagwood dog and aided in the hasty consumption as I sought out my much anticipated dessert.
Stall after stall of waffles and doughnuts mocked me as I desperately searched for fairy floss that fitted the criteria of today’s challenge. A wave of disappointment hit me equal only to that of my tax return as I walked a country mile through crowds of people and manure. No stick, no fairy floss! I was going to have to admit defeat.
Grabbing a small armful of show treats I headed home to nurse my wounded pride and undo my pants button. As I sit here on the couch contemplating my failure to complete I will be taking hours of comfort in my oversized lollipop that I purchased at the Charters Towers Show…oh hang on!
